AC/DC: Welsh Fan Convention's Capacity More Than Doubled
July 7, 2005According to icNorthWales, the capacity for the upcoming annual Wrexham AC/DC convention, "The Big Ball - The Second Coming", which is being held between Friday, August 5, and Sunday, August 7, at NEWI's William Aston Hall in Wales, has more than doubled from 1,200 last year to 3,000.
Tribute acts from across the world will join rock celebrities to celebrate Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Brian Johnson, Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd's Scots/Aussie rock creation.
The event will mark the 25th anniversary of the recording of "Back in Black", the band's seminal album, and the death of legendary former band member Bon Scott.
'The first event last summer was fantastic,' said organizer Andy Whitfield, also a member of SEEDY DC, Wrexham's own tribute band. 'This year it has exploded. I am seriously worried that Wrexham fans will struggle to get tickets, such is the demand.
"People who came last year are coming back with friends. There is a girl who attended last year from Toronto who is bringing 20 mates and a German AC/DC fan is bringing a plane-load!
"We also have coaches coming from Ireland and Scotland. In the first week after we set up the website we had 15,000 hits."
And after SEEDY DC were invited to the Metal Hammer music awards, meeting stars such as Lemmy and IRON MAIDEN, some rock royalty is expected.
"We've been told Bruce Dickinson from IRON MAIDEN will be there," said Andy.
There are other rumours flying around, too, the biggest one being that AC/DC are recording in London during the Ball and may make an appearance.
Andy said: "We know they know about it because through bands like HAYSEED DIXIE, who played last year and who know the band, word has reached them. We have heard nothing from their management yet, however."
HAYSEED DIXIE return to the event, along with FAT ANGUS, RHINO BUCKET, ACTION IN DC, BACK IN BLACK, DIRTY DC, BON'S BALLS, BOWLRIDER, HELLS BALLS, HOLE FULL OF LOVE, LUNATIC, PLANET OF WOMEN, STUNTFACE and THUNDHERSTRUCK.
Tickets are on sale through Phase One Records and Moonlight Records in Wrexham and at www.ticketweb.co.uk.
